Situated in the middle of the working class district, Sant Andreu, Versalles stands out as a fashionable meeting point with its high ceilings and interior columns, black and white floor and round marble tables. First opened in 1928, the establishment served as a refugee camp during the Spanish civil war, then was later rebuilt into a classically styled bar serving tapas, vermouth and cigalas (coffee with licqueur). The bar’s latest renovation dates to 2007 when it was redesigned with a more minimalist approach. Although it possibly lost a bit of its old world charm in the process of being updated, Versalles remains a local favorite in Sant Andreu. One of the new improvements, however, is the bar’s cellar, which features a full program of funk and soul music nights as well as the occasional concert between Thursday and Saturday evenings.

The kitchen opens at 9:00 and closes at 23:00, serving tapas and typical Catalan dishes nonstop, which please patrons as much as the atmosphere.Quote_transparent
