Designed by the architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch, the Poble Espanyol de Barcelona (the Spanish Village of Barcelona) was built in 1929 for the Barcelona World Exhibition. Puig i Cadafalch’s intention was to carry out an architectural experiment by creating an “ideal” model for a village which would represent popular Spanish architecture.

There is a town hall, a monastery, 117 buildings intertwined with streets and squares inside the village. The suitability of each structure’s aesthetic was taken into consideration to create a harmonious composition that fitted with the “village” theme of the project.Quote_transparent
