Círculo del Arte was launched in the Spring of 1994 as a department within Círculo de Lectores. Encouraged and supported by contemporary visual artists like Eduardo Arroyo, Antonio Saura, José Hernández, Manuel Rivera, Albert Ràfols-Casamada and others in the Spanish art world, Círculo de Lectores created Círculo del Arte as an enterprise specializing in the commissioning and selling of exceptional, original prints and books. Hence, Círculo del Arte was introduced in Spain as a modern and accessible platform for purchasing original contemporary art.

In 1999, due to rapid growth, Círculo del Arte became a company in its own right, independent from Círculo de Lectores. That same year, Círculo del Arte founded its Cultural Center, a 500 square meter space in the area of el Borne, which hosts a variety of cultural events such as art exhibitions and book presentations.

Círculo del Arte currently has over 2,000 subscribers worldwide.
