The Museu Tèxtil i d’Indumentària of Barcelona is both a museum in the traditional sense of the word, as well as a platform for new ideas in the worlds of fashion and costume design. Additionally, it serves as a vehicle for communication: The museum seeks to offer a theoretical exploration of the cultural and social role of the body and fashion. Through research and exhibitions, the museum preserves a valuable heritage of textiles and historical costume.
The patrimonial holdings of the museum consist of objects related to the ornamentation of the human body, such as dresses, jewelry, accoutrements and an abundant collection of textiles spanning from Coptic fabrics to industrial materials, revealed through significant collections of lacework, embroidery, liturgical vestments and tapestries.
