Thank God Patrick Pulsinger gave up hairdressing all those years ago. These days, instead of cutting fringes, he spends his time cutting records in the relaxing environs of his studio, Feedback, in Vienna. Conjuring up powerhouse electro, big room beats, off-kilter experiments and deep, doleful jazz, his tracks throw out hooks like a heavyweight whatever the genre. Most widely known as co-founder of Cheap Records with partner Erdem Tunakan, though no longer an active part of proceedings there, Patrick has taken left turns at every opportunity and is always eager to get involved in new partnerships, projects or production styles. Which is why, this year, the Red Bull Music Academy takes him public in this one-off workshop, moving from a spark of inspiration to the point of perspiration in the man’s own individual style. With no guarantee of where we’re going, this music therapy session provides a window to the workings of one of electronic music’s true mavericks. Come get a peep behind the magician’s cloth.
